Cantatas, the core of J.S. Bach’s creation, represent almost the half of all his preserved work. According to Carl Philipp Emanuel, his son, Bach composed five complete cycles of sacred cantatas –one cycle is the total amount of cantatas required for all the religious services on Sundays and celebrations of one liturgic year. Bachcelona Foundation carries on with Bach’s complete cycle of cantatas. This programme includes the fabulous BWV 178 Wo Gott der Herr nicht bei uns hält, which will be represented exactly 300 years after Bach performed it for the first time in Leipzig, on 30th July 1724.
